about

Hi there! I’m D. Blade, a musician from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This is my first solo album. It is called Home Recordings 19-23. I’d like to thank you for taking the time to listen to it, and if you’ll indulge me I’d like to share a little about it with you.

As the title suggests, this is a collection of songs written and recorded between 2019 and 2023, although one or two of them are older (the first part of The God Shivers in particular was written in late 2016, if memory serves). The majority of the writing and recording was done in 2020 and 2021 during the COVID-19 lockdown, however the subject matter has nothing to do with the pandemic outside of the bossa nova I wrote commemorating my stay in a lockdown hotel during that time. This album is meant to be a time capsule of the feelings and experiences I had during the first five years of my adult life, expressed through musical styles that are a reflection of my tastes during that same span of time.

I’m not really sure how I feel about this album. It’s the end result of trying to fulfill a childhood dream of creating a record fully by myself and doing so by executing a vision that I had at 23, and part of me feels like it was a fool's errand. It certainly sounded better in my head before I recorded it, and it ended up kind of being a mess. But it’s a mess I’m proud to take responsibility for, and I feel like I have done right by honouring the wishes of my younger self and completing it. I certainly owe him that much.

pursuit of making lo-fi indie punk.
